Haux Life-Support GmbH in the Baden city of Karlsbad is considered around the world as a specialist for decompression chambers used in submersed applications, underground and tunnel construction, and in hospitals. The chambers can generate overpressure of up to 5 bars – or even more in specialised systems, for instance in deep diving applications. Depending on their purpose, these can be equipped with air conditioning systems, pure oxygen supply systems or other options.
The Haux machine fleet includes multiple turning and milling machines. Since very thick sheet thicknesses are used to manufacture the pressure-tight vessels, large quantities of chips are produced during operation, then transported to containers directly via chip conveyors.
However, residual aluminium or steel chips remain in and on the machines, as well as residues of fluid operating media such as coolant, lubricants and cutting oil. The company needed a way to remove these residues efficiently.
The machines are cleaned regularly using a Ruwac SPS 250 chip extractor. This type of vacuum cleaner separates the extracted material into solid and liquid components.
The liquid component (cooling lubricants and cutting oils) is delivered to a collection tank around 150 litres in size, and just needs to be emptied. This allows liquids to be either disposed or sent for further processing. The same is true for the solid components, which are the aluminium or steel chips. These are collected in the 30 litre chip basket, and can be recycled as a valuable secondary raw material without “downcycling”. The vacuum cleaner is so powerful that even the heavy chips produced by Haux's manufacturing process can be reliably extracted.
