The Rostock deep sea port specialises in handling bulk materials and in particular grains. When its loading capacities were strained, four northern German agricultural trade companies founded GT Rostock GmbH and invested 30 million euros to construct a new terminal.
The terminal silos can hold 160,000 tons of grain. That is enough to fill half of a football stadium. Up to 1,200 tons can be loaded on ships each hour, while the maximum unloading capacity per truck is 900 tons an hour. With such huge quantities, grain dust is sure to be produced during loading. Because of this, a powerful extraction system was an essential part of the terminal’s equipment.
The planners selected a Ruwac type DA 5140 M system. Its 15 kW direct driver offers enough power for suction across three stories. A 278 metre long pipeline network facilitates cleaning of the entire area. Once the suction tube is connected to the line, the vacuum cleaner starts. The DA 5140 is also well-equipped to vacuum large quantities of extracted materials – which may occur in case of an accident.
The extracted material falls off of the filter unit and directly into a 200 litre barrel that is placed on a rolling and tipping device, allowing it to be removed, exchanged and/or emptied easily.
